Padma Doobay LCSWA
Welcome! I’m Padma, a Multicultural Therapist, providing teletherapy in NC. I am honored to join you on your healing journey. My goal is that through therapy with me, you’ll land in a much better space than when we started working together.
I hold undergraduate and graduate degrees in Social Work, with 14 years of clinical, program development and community based experience with socio-culturally and ethnically diverse individuals in NYC and NC.
**At this time, Padma is considered out-of-network with ALL insurance companies. Check back for updates on her ability to accept insurance(s) as she gets paneled.
Trauma, Healing and Social Justice
Stress connected to immigration, ableism, race, oppression, and white supremacy are often overlooked. As a first generation immigrant womxn of color, I too have experienced firsthand how these ‘isms’ show up in our everyday lives; making it impossible to be our authentic selves, and manifesting as symptoms of anxiety, depression and failure to thrive. With my clinical knowledge, I aim to bring these issues into the room. Here, you can expect to challenge oppressive narratives that saturate our personal stories, and find the power to reauthor and retell these stories.
Clients I Work With
I partner with young adults (ages 18-30) to address challenges related to identity, otherness, life transitions, intergenerational and family-of-origin trauma, acculturation, grief/loss and intersectional womxn needs. I especially welcome the opportunity to work with Black, Brown and other individuals of color, first generation immigrants, adult children of immigrants, and individuals living with complex medical needs and acquired injuries.
How Therapy with Me Can Help
I believe that transparency and a culturally competent, empathetic, and self-empowering approach is essential to building a trusted therapeutic relationship. My clinical style is interactive, curious, and collaborative. I join with individuals utilizing culturally informed, person-centered assessments and inclusive treatment interventions informed by narrative, multicultural, queer feminist, social justice, and relational lenses to understand how systemic racism, intergenerational, and childhood traumas have informed coping skills and relationship dynamics.
On a more personal note…
These days I spend most of my time outside of work chasing after my baby. I love the beach, live music, creating innovative Caribbean inspired vegan meals and hosting dinner parties. I enjoy traveling and dream of doing so again, soon!
