Geoff Birch LCSW
Hello, I’m Geoff! I’m glad to have the chance to work with you. I’m a psychotherapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am passionate about supporting individuals to grow in all aspects of life. My background has included working at an inpatient psychiatric hospital supporting individuals as they begin their recovery journey. I have also worked in schools assisting adolescents to navigate social, emotional and behavioral challenges while also working with parents and teachers to promote success and growth. I hold a undergraduate degree in Applied Development Psychology and Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.
Anxiety, Stress Management and Rebuilding
Life can be full of ups and downs that often come without a warning. While it’s natural to attempt to attempt to overcome these challenges on our own, this can often lead to additional stress, isolation and anxiety. Sometimes this stress and isolation leads to increased drug and alcohol use or engaging in other unhealthy habits. We all face obstacles that can lead to throwing life off tracks. The key to making a change is to identify what’s going wrong and taking steps towards where you want to end up, which is exactly what you’re doing right now by researching a therapist. Change doesn’t occur overnight, but through therapy, I can support you to in your journey and help you recognize your progress towards a different future.
Clients I Work With
I work with children (8+) adolescents, adults, families and couples. I enjoy helping people navigate and balance all that goes into daily life. Whether it’s finding ways to interact with difficult people or taking steps to rebuild our lives after traumatic life events. For adolescents, possibly navigating the challenging social dynamics of school or finding independence while interacting with parental demands and expectations. Life if full of finding balance in our many responsibilities and relationships. Maybe you’re looking to find a way to advocate for yourself to your boss, end a toxic relationship or gain some confidence. Is the hurt of a traumatic past still weighing on you? I can help you learn to let go of the past. Even if it’s been months, years or even decades, there is hope. The idea of rebuilding our life is daunting, but not impossible. Above all, I help people cope with anxiety, depression and substance abuse to get back to living life to the fullest and being the best version of themselves.
How Therapy with Me Can Help
The foundation of my work is accepting individuals for who they are and where they are. I understand that the hardest part of seeking help is getting started. My goal is to listen and learn about you and together work towards your goals. Additionally, I incorporate a number of theories including cognitive behavioral theory, systems approach and social learning techniques to help clients gain new perspectives on the stresses of daily life. I believe in being transparent and honest with my clients. Sometimes the message that we need to hear isn’t easy to hear. However, through honesty, I foster an environment of focused growth and progress. Therapy is a way to understand the challenges you face and develop ways to overcome them with the support of someone in your corner.
On a more personal note..
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring new parks, trails and spending time with my dog. Some of my favorite things to do are trying to recreate new BBQ recipes, trying new restaurants and watching football in the fall. I love to travel and I’m always planning my next weekend getaway.
